Soft, melodic vocals paired with dreamy organ-playing, Beach House’s 2010 album, Teen Dream is nostalgic of another time. Victoria Legrand’s throaty voice reminds me Stevie Nicks or even Nico. And their success is no surprise considering Beach House has teamed up with indie powerhouse, Grizzly Bear.

I can’t stop listening to the track, Norway. It’s so dang catchy!

Check it out for yourself.

The Temper Trap is an alternative band from Melbourne Australia. They are fairly new and are making massive waves on the INDIE scene. The Temper Trap is one of those bands that just ”GETS IT”, has gathered a massive following, and the crucial respect of the INDIE crowd. I have never seen a band’s songs have so many camios on television either. They are by far one of our favorite bands for 2009 and will maintain their grip on us for life. Their music is constantly on repeat here at the INDIE PEACE office. They possess a rare and magical ability to always sound new and personally defining. You will think they wrote the soundtrack to your life. The lead singer has amazing range and can hit the high notes with ease.  TRUST US!! You will like them.

Not only do great storage solutions come out Sweden (love you, IKEA), but so too does musical trio Miike Snow. We really dig Miike Snow here in the INDIE office and have been known to jam out to him for an afternoon. Their catchy indie-electronica-pop elements make them a fun listen for a workday pickup or in preparation for a night out. They use playful vocal distortions and keyboard rifts to create a dynamic and diverse sound. Miike snow has been remixed by some of the best, see Mark Ronson’s Animal.

Atlantans, catch them March 22nd at the Masquerade! We just might be there too!

Instead of using traditional rolling racks at some of it’s eco-events, INDIE utilizes Trees Atlanta to purchase a hanging alternative. We took jute rope and tied it between three trees and hung our collection from there!

Nearly 25 years after its inception, Trees Atlanta has inspired thousands of Atlanta citizens to advocate for better tree ordinances to protect the city’s urban landscape, an integral action that has resulted in Trees Atlanta becoming one of the most widely known and supported non-profits throughout metro-Atlanta, and a highly regarded community steward of our urban environment.”

What we’re feeling this week is the melodic rhythms of Oklahoma-born singer-songwriter Annie Erin Clark– better known as St. Vincent.

Not only does she have an angelic voice, but St. Vincent also plays guitar, bass and keyboard in her ensemble. Her eerie yet catchy musicality once graced bands such as Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens but she also has an impressive repertoire as an opening act for bands such as Arcade Fire, Andrew Bird, Grizzly Bear and Midlake. As an added bonus, St. Vincent looks as charming as she sounds – check out the video from her 2009 album, Actor.

Look what Willa dug up to donate to a Haiti relief fund. Isn’t she smart?
